Event Details:
- Date: Saturday, April 25th, 2026
- Time: 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM (MST)
- Location: Bridgerland Technical College, West Building, Room 1860, 1410 N 1000 W, Logan, UT 84321
Event Overview
Join us for a hands-on, code-along workshop on building binary classifier models using the Kaggle diabetes dataset. This session will take you through the full machine learning workflow, from raw data to trained model, all in a live coding environment right in your browser. No local setup required.
What You’ll Learn
Whether you’re just getting into machine learning or looking to sharpen your skills, this workshop will walk you through the complete process of building a classifier. Topics include:
- Data wrangling and cleaning: loading the dataset, handling missing values, and getting your data into shape for modeling
- Exploratory data analysis and visualization: understanding feature distributions, spotting correlations, and using visual tools to guide your decisions
- Building models with scikit-learn: training binary classification models, tuning parameters, and understanding what the model is actually doing under the hood
- Evaluating model performance: accuracy, precision, recall, confusion matrices, and how to tell if your model is actually any good
- The full ML workflow: tying it all together so you walk away understanding the end-to-end process, not just isolated steps
Your Coding Environment
Each participant will get their own cloud-based VS Code instance with everything pre-loaded and ready to go. Just open your browser, connect to your environment, and start coding along with the group. No installs, no dependency headaches. Just show up and build.
Because these environments cost money, they will be available from 1 PM until 9 PM that evening, so you’ll have plenty of time to work through the material at your own pace after the workshop wraps up. Before the instances shut down, make sure to download your workspace to your own computer so you can keep experimenting at home.
Important: The presenter is providing 20 instances, so you’ll want to be on time for this event. The course details can be downloaded onto your device anytime prior, during, or after the event.
