Event Overview
Everybody uses these models now. Far fewer of us could explain what’s actually happening between typing a prompt and reading the response.
This month is an introduction to how large language models work, focused on the GPT-2 architecture. GPT-2 is a good place to start: it’s open, it’s small enough to reason about, and it’s the same fundamental design that newer models scaled up.
What We’ll Cover
The terms that come up constantly and rarely get defined:
- What a token is
- What a parameter is
- What dimensions are
- What a transformer is
Expect to leave with a working mental model rather than a full derivation. Bring your questions, including the ones that feel too basic to ask.
Who Should Attend?
All skill levels are welcome, and no prior machine learning experience is assumed. If you use AI tools and want a better sense of what’s under the hood, this one is for you.
